Our Bank is established in the year February 1906 as a Co-operative Credit Society in Belgaum District which is the first society to be registered under the Co-operative Society Act after enactment of said act.
The group 16 eminent personalities came together voluntarily to form a society for the upliftment of economical conditions of the farmers, businessmen and workmen etc., and to serve these sect of people a society was formed called as “ THE BELGAUM PIONEER URBAN CO-OPERATIVE CREDIT SOCITY LTD., BELGAUM.” in the year February 1906. This is the first Co-operative Society formed in Belgaum District.
The following were the eminent founder personalities named, late 1. Sri. Vishnu Raghunath Natu, 2.Sri. Hari Bhikhaji Samant, 3.Sri. Achyut Bhaskar Desai, 4.Dr. Vishnu Jaganath Shirgaonkar, 5.Sri. Govind Gopal Uchagaonkar, 6.Sri. Annappa Fadeppa Chougule, 7.Sri. Bhimrao V. Patil, 8.Sri. Shivlingappa Mallappa Itagi, 9.Sri. Karibasayya Dundappa Kudachimath, 10.Sri. Narsingrao Ranojirao Mane, 11.Sri. Siddappa Tamanna Balekundri, 12.Sri. Mohohinsaheb Hajiadam Kalegar,13. Sri. Malhar Ramchandra Kulkarni, 14.Sri, Mohd’alisaheb A. Khatib,15. Sri.Balkrishna Malhar Lad, 16.Sri. Ganesh Gangadhar Dhopeshwar.
The first Board of Director came in to existence under the founder Chairmanship of Advocate late Sri. V.R. Natu and the jurisdictions of operation of the Society was limited to BELGAUM CITY, initially the society was run on a loan amount of `.2,000/- which was taken by the Society from Government since, then there were no apex body to finance the societies. In the year 1912 The Belgaum Dist. Co-operative Banks was established to finance the Urban Societies.
The Board of Director of the Society had decided to raise its own share capital and gradually the share capital increased, the initial share value was fixed at `.1/- and 103 members contributed `.163/- towards share capital. Thereafter the face value raised to `.5/- during 1933-34 and `.25/- during 1974-75 respectively at present the face value of share is `.100/- and present membership stood at 11630 as on 31.03.2012.
Year by year Bank’s financial position gradually go on progressing, as well as the Share Capital and Reserves were accumulated in a sound position, and first dividend was declared in the year 1912-13. The maximum limit of loan to individual was fixed at `.300/-and there were no other revenue except interest on loan.
The founder Chairman expired on March 1912 thereafter the next founder Sri. Hari B. Samant elected as Chairman till February 1913 and the 3rd Chairman was Hon’ Justice Sri. N.S. Lokur from 1913 to 1918.
The above three Chairmen had given their dedicated service to the society for stable and healthy financial growth during which the Capital and Reserves were accumulated in strong position out of earned profit.
The Bank had witnessed very eminent personalities named above, and amongst them one such personality was late Sri. Bhimrao B. Potdar who was a Chairman 1918 to 1967.
The Society was converted into Bank in the year 1921-22 and after the enactment of Mumbai Co-operative Society Act 1925 the Bank gained memento of progress which will be highlighted by following comparative figures:

In the year 1981 the Bank has celebrated its PLANTINUM JUBLEE at the auspicious hands of His Excellency Shri. Govind Narayan then Governor of Karnataka and Shri. H.C. Shrikanthaih, then Minister of Co-operation. Government of Karnataka.
In the year 2005 the earlier Bank’s name is changed to as “ THE PIONEER URBAN CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD.,BELGAUM” also undergone tremendous changes in looks by renovating the premises and had brought the corporate looks to facilitate the valuable customers, extending various types of loan facilities through its four branches in the vicinity of Belgaum at comfort rate, introduced RTGS/NEFT facilities and decided to go for Core Banking Solution in near future to work at par with other commercial and private banks..
The only Bank in North Karnataka having COSMO based of Members, Board of Directors and employees too. Serving the members and customers for last more than 10 Decades with very polite and smiling services always extending help to its members with trust and confidence, yet to celebrate its CENTENARY.
